Since this year, Wangwushan-Daimeishan UNESCO Global Geopark has been taking the advantage of an opportunity of building a region-based tourism demonstration area and following the requirement of GGN to improve infrastructures and promote science education. As a result, the Geopark has been becoming well known, which has boosted local tourism development.
On one hand, we have been accelerating infrastructure construction and enhancing geoscientific popularization. 20 protection signs have been set up at the major geosites and 193 border pillars and monuments, 124 big advertising boards,169 interpretive panels and 160 service signs have been put in place. The newly investigated geosites in Jiyuan Basin, Daimeishan Alpine Garden Trail and Jingzishan Geo-trail have been registered and conserved by building up a 35-meter-long fence and 44 interpretive panels. 22 protection signs have been installed in Fengmenkou geological section and 15 protection signs and a 508-meter-long fence have been set up at the caves in Wangwushan Area. In addition, more than 50 big ad boards have been erected along highways, main streets and main roads leading to each area.
On the other hand, we have been attaching importance to promotion and the visibility of Wangwushan-Daimeishan UNESCO Global Geopark. In recent years, through social media such as TV, websites, radio and Wechat, many activities have been organized, such as big events, conferences, geoscience study tours, volunteer training camps, summer camps, best photography works collecting, lectures giving to local communities, schools, etc. As a result, the geosites have been conserved and the geosciences have been promoted.
The development of Wangwushan-Daimeishan Global Geopark has promoted regional economy. The locals are busy in selling local products and souvenirs and running shops and restaurants. Project investments such as the improvement of Daojing Square, Tiantanfeng Area, cableways, Wangmudong area have created employment, which has enhanced the sustainable development of regional economy.
