With the COVID-19 pandemic affecting the daily lives of people around the globe, Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark is collaborating with the Chinese Geoparks Network (CGN) and the Japanese Geoparks Network (JGN) to develop an online platform for exchanges among APGN Geoparks.

Eight JGN geoparks participated in a successful test run on 6 March, making use of existing web-based video conferencing tools available to all. A second round of tests involving more geoparks from both the JGN and the CGN will be done in late March.

The test runs aim to address concerns over connection quality and stability, and identify suitable arrangements to overcome the language barrier and to optimise the platform for effective exchange among geoparks.

This platform is expected to provide a simple, readily available channel for communication and networking among geoparks and geopark networks. It enables many possibilities, including virtual meetings, presentations and classrooms.
