A History of Hay Time Weekend, running on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 June at St John's Chapel Town Hall in Upper Weardale (10.30am to 4pm), is going to be a fantastic opportunity to find out more about hay time and hay meadows in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Entry to the exhibition and activities will be free and two local WI groups will be providing refreshments

At the event people will be able to take part in a range of activities including:

• Handling and talking about tools and equipment used in the past for hay making
• 'Sights and Sounds' - Listening to specially prepared extracts from oral histories with hay meadow farmers from the past
• Watching a display of old photographs of hay making
• Hearing about some of the special language, history and wildlife of hay meadows
• Touching and exploring different sorts of hay
• Corncrake table-top display
• Children (of all ages) will also be able to dress up in traditional farming clothes, take part in artistic activities, enter a competition and watch a puppet show.
