Huangshan was included in the first IUCN Green List of Protected Areas

On 14th, November, the International Union for Conservation of Nature(IUCN)released the first Green List of Protected Areas in the 6th World Parks Conference(WPC) in Australia. Huangshan Global Geopark was included inside it.

IUCN is a resource and environment conservation organization with the longest history and the most improvement network in the world. The IUCN Green List of Protected Area is the only global standard for well management Protected Areas to recognize and promote successful experience of effective management in the most precious natural area on the planet. “The IUCN Green List will define success for protected areas,” says Julia Marton-Lefèvre, IUCN Director General. “It is about recognizing those sites that successfully respond to the challenges of the 21st century and contribute to the wellbeing of people and nature.”

These years, according to the “Guidelines and Criteria for National Geoparks seeking UNESCO's assistance to join the GGN”,Huangshan Global Geopark has enhanced corporation and communication with IUCN and other international oragnizations. At the beginning of this year, Huangshan has launched the application process for IUCN GLPA, taken actively part in developing the outline for responsibility of GLPA China Reference Group and China’s criteria. The IUCN Green List Criteria consists of over 100 detailed indicators in 4 parts: Sound Planning, Equitable Governance, Effective Management and Successful Outcomes. There are 8 countries in the first phase of Green List. The 23 listed PAs are chosen among 50 candidates from this 8 countries.
